Inlay
The patient, a 38 year old female, presented with a defective OL mercury amalgam filling. Further examination revealed an enamel craze on the lingual. The patient experienced sensitivity to hot and cold as well as sweet sensitivity.
CEREC Solution:
Treatment consisted of a single visit CEREC Inlay. The treatment of choice was an OL Inlay designed in Correlation Mode using a Vita 3M1C block. Removal of the amalgam and decay left sound marginal ridges and the lingual crack was superficial. The restoration was characterized
with Vita Akzent stains, Akz 03 & Akz 20 and glaze. The
Inlay was adhesively placed with Excite and Variolink II.
Total time was approximately 60 minutes.
Onlay
The patient, a 38 year old male presented with an unsightly MOBL mercury amalgam filling. The patient wanted improved esthetics but did not want to have a crown placed because of the amount of tooth structure that would be lost.
CEREC Solution:
Treatment consisted of a single visit CEREC Onlay. An MOBL Onlay designed in Correlation Mode was chosen to preserve the remaining cusps using a Vita 1M1C block. The value of the restoration was chose slightly higher that the natural tooth to allow for lowering and increase of chroma.. The restoration was characterized with Vita Akzent stains, Akz 03, Akz 10, Akz 20 and glaze. The Onlay was adhesively placed with Excite and Variolink II.
Total time was approximately 90 minutes.
Posterior Crown
The patient, a 33 year old female presented with a failed Captek crown that fractured due to inadequate reduction.
CEREC Solution:
Treatment consisted of a single visit CEREC Crown. A full Crown designed in Correlation Mode was created using a Vita 1M2C block. This shade was high in value to allow for characterization to achieve a proper blend. The restoration was characterized with Vita Akzent stains, Akz 03, Akz 10, Akz 20 and glaze. The Crown was adhesively placed with Multilink.
Total time was approximately 75 minutes.
Posterior Quadrant
The patient, a 59 year old male, presented with heavily worn gold restorations with defective margins and recurrent decay on #30-32 and a defective restoration on #29.
CEREC Solution:
Treatment consisted of a single visit for Multiple Posterior CEREC Restorations. Two full coverage Onlays, #30 & #31 and a full Crown, #32 were placed in addition to an MOD Inlay #29. All restorations were created using the Correlation Mode and milled from Vita 1M2C blocks. The Inlay was not characterized and the Onlays and Crown were characterized with Vita Akzent Akz 03, Akz 10, Akz 17, Akz 20 and glaze. The restorations were all adhesively placed with Excite and Variolink II
Total time was approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes.
Veneers
The patient, a 39 year old female presented with chipped and worn anterior dentition following 3 years of active orthodontic treatment. The buccal corridor was slightly narrowed and tissue contours were irregular.
CEREC Solution:
Treatment consisted of 8 CEREC porcelain veneers in a a single visit appointment. Recontouring was accomplished with a scalpel and Expasyl. Eight Veneers #5-12 were prepared and milled from 0M1C blocks, cutback and layered with Vita VM7 Window porcelain to achieve the translucent effect. Surface characterization was accomplished with Vita Akzent Akz 2, Akz 17 and glaze. The restorations were adhesively placed with Excite and Variolink II base with no catalyst.
Total time was approximately 7 hours.
Anterior Crown
The patient, a 30 year old male, presented with a darkly stained, endodontically treated tooth.
CEREC Solution:
Treatment consisted of a CEREC Anterior Crown completed in a single visit appointment. The pulp chamber was greatly enlarged from previous bleaching attempts. The majority of the darkly stained tooth structure was removed in the preparation process and a Fibrekor post build up was placed to stabilize the underlying color and provide a sound foundation. Incisal edge layering was accomplished with Vita VM9 Window and Enamel porcelain over a 1M1C Vita block. Additional surface characterization was accomplished with Vita Akzent Akz 01, Akz 2, Akz 17 and glaze. The restoration was adhesively placed with Excite and Appeal Anterior.
Total time was approximately 2 hours and 10 minutes.
