Air Abrasion is a technology that was originated in the 1950's. The concept is great: drill-less dentistry that allows you to remove cavities in their infancy without the use of needles.

New advances in adhesive and bonding technologies have made this technology popular. Here is how it works. The unit consists of an air compressor and a delivery unit that holds an abrasive powder. The powder is delivered with precisely controlled air pressure through a handpiece that has an extremely fine orifice. The jet of abrasive is then directed at the surface of the defective tooth and the decayed areas are literally wiped away! Only the part of the tooth that is decayed can be removed and the process preserves more of your natural tooth structure. Once the decay has been removed, the tooth is restored with a bonded tooth colored filling.
